Uses graphene to make sensing and communicating materials. Sensing surface technology allows data and information to be extracted directly from materials.

Description

Seeking capital up to AUD $3.2M.

Imagine Intelligent Materials uses  the super-material graphene. In 2010, the two scientists who discovered graphene were awarded the Nobel Prize. Imagine uses graphene to make sensing and conducting materials. They use graphene’s electrical conductivity to coat materials to make them “smart”. Imagine’s sensing technology allows data and information to be extracted directly from materials. This can generate reports in real time on changes in pressure, moisture and stress. This technology moves beyond the internet of things and into the Internet of Industrial Materials.

Examples of sensing and communications being developed are: the floors of rooms in aged care homes to report if someone falls; to enable dams to report leaks and movement before they fail; to enable roads to report on traffic density, and walls of buildings that report water leaks before they are visible.

A research and development group to further develop signal processing, hardware and software has been established in Finland.
